hopes for the new season
here's what I am wishing for....

Cresswell no longer in the first 11 (thank you for your service)
Antonio not playing as a striker except in an emergency (thank you for your service)
Playing a left winger on the left wing (Antonio? Cornet?)
Downes proving (or not) if he can play at this level
A youth team member getting a fair crack of the whip and proving he can play at this level (thought Johnson might have done this last season but not quite)
Win the Europa League
At least quarter finals of the FA Cup
At least quarter finals of the League Cup
Way, way less of the passing backwards nonsense that we have had for (at least) the last two years
Top 8 finish
Take points off the top 6
Beat Tottenham fucking Hotspur at least once, draw the other game (remember these are 'hopes')

I think that covers it.......

Re: hopes for the new season
Despite all the meltdowns, we will still likely come out of the window in decent shape and while we won't worrying Man City next season I see a finish of around 9th, maybe 8th, as I don't see too many others around us improving right now.

Europa League - Have to get out the group as seeds, need to make min QF.

Domestic cups - Will go out at Old Trafford and Maine Road, or whatever new dump is called.

Soucek to not be anywhere near the captaincy. Or the team for that matter.

Top 12 finish comfortably.

For the manager to accept he has no clue about playing out from the back - play to what he knows best - get it up the pitch the quickly and get teams turning.

Top 8
Decent cup runs domestically and in Europe
A striker scores more than 10 goals
We dont lose our best players in January if it's going well
A youngster comes through and gets good game time in the league
We play football on the front foot in some games and actually attack for more than 10 mins a game.
Ogbonna gets the hammer of the year he should have got a few seasons ago before injury.

Our Striker Wins the golden boot
Fabianski concedes less than 15 goals all season

That’s always got to be your starting position

He might take three weeks to get to Stratford Station but if we gave him a ball from the club shop as a memento he'd lose it after 3 seconds.

Re: hopes for the new season
if we tell soucek to pack his bags and go now he might get to stratford station by the first week of the season

Re: hopes for the new season
Moyes leaving, not getting relegated, our best players still being at the club by the time the new season starts (24/25) with a progressive manager in charge.

Far as I'm concerned while Moyes remains, and while Sullivan plays the tune, we're in trouble.

Re: hopes for the new season
Hopes for new season:

1) Sullivan sells up
2) Sullivan sells up
3) Sullivan sells up

I don't necessarily want super rich owners - just someone who is competent and has a clear plan and strategy for on pitch and off pitch elements of the business.

Beyond that my best case scenario is:
Win EL
Finish 12th
QF of one of the cups
Soucek, Antonio and Cresswell no longer start
Our football isn't so atrociously poor, boring, uninspiring, unambitious and just all-round shit as it has been for 18 months at least.

My actual expectations:

Knocked out in QF of EL
Finish 15th
We get to QF of one of the cups having beaten a top 6 club to get there and then get drawn away against Man City or Man Utd or Chelsea and lose
We play utter shit football
Moyes sacked about Xmas
Soucek and Antonio continue to start
We don't actually buy anyone significant until the night of the transfer window closing and overall we spend 1/2 the Rice money and get told "we tried"
I continue to avoid home matches because the football is so shite and you're so far from the pitch
I go to most of the aways and have a laugh even though we're awful
I renew my season ticket in 2024 because one day Moyes and Sullivan will be gone and I might start enjoying home games again

I think Areola was a poor signing given the finances, but fucking hell, we've got much more pressing matters than replacing him.

A controversial one, get rid of Areola and get a decent replacement for fab.
